Eschatology and the Christian Worldview

As I was sitting down and really digging into cosmic eschatology I began to find it interesting that we, as Christians, base so much our lives on our Christian worldview concerning the end of time (note that I did not say biblical worldview). What Christians generally believe about the end of the world, or the end times, dominates our attitudes and actions in so many different areas such as economic policy, the environment, and justice, to name just a few. These are not small matters, these are BIG, important issues. I find this realization of mine quite alarming especially when you consider that eschatology is the least taught, least studied, and least understood of all Christian doctrine. In fact, most of us have probably never even heard the term…

This coming Sunday morning (March 30th), I will be teaching on the topic of individual eschatology. In other words, what happens to a Christian when they die. We’ll cover several different questions about this topic including: Do we go immediately into the presence of God when we die? Does purgatory exist? Is there such a thing as ’soul sleep’? And if we have time we’ll cover a bit about how the various doctrines surrounding eschatology have developed over time. Afterwards I will post my notes here if you are interested in seeing a copy. Hope to see you there!

Bored on the Internet? I turned it into TV.

Are you one of those people who checks email, facebook, and myspace every day and if you don’t have comments or messages you are left with a strange sense of emptiness and can’t figure out what to do with the rest of the time you thought you were going to spend on the internet? I am.

I mean, let me just be honest for a second…I am going to spend a certain amount of time on the internet every day whether or not I have anything to actually do online.

Now, it’s very seldom that I ever watch television. This isn’t because of some moral aversion I have to it, though that would probably be justified at this point, but rather because nothing on local television really interests me. That said, I have sort of turned the time that I’m normally daydreaming on the internet into my own customized TV time. So here are a few links to stuff that I regularly watch on the internet that you might find interesting or beneficial:

http://www.marshillchurch.org – This website has enough video to satisfy your internet or TV fix for, well…pretty much forever. Solid biblical teaching presented in an interesting, culturally relevant way. Plus, you can subscribe to the vodcast through iTunes and get all the latest videos downloaded automatically.

http://www.theresurgence.com – Similar to the stuff you will see at mars hill, but a little more focused towards topics in ministry. Here you’ll find some of the most prominent Christians teachers speaking about various topics, such as John Piper, Matt Chandler, and Mark Driscoll.

http://www.godtube.com – Ridiculous spoof of youtube, a lot of worthless stuff here…but some of it I find interesting and/or funny.

Enjoy :)
